Our Story

A little  about us...

Why Did We Start StockMotion?

In 2020, the phrase "how to invest" became one of the most commonly Googled questions. Among individuals aged 18-24, the topic is still a big question mark.

In fact, the most common responses to the question "What do you wish you learned in high school" always include personal finance related topics like investing. And though a whole host of resources for this already exist, few are truly relevant to younger generations.

Because of this, an increasing number of individuals are turning to questionable sources of financial information who tout their luck in high-risk investments as financial expertise. That's where StockMotion comes in.

The Journey Begins

In 2020, we set out to build an experience that could cater to anyone wanting to learn the basics of personal finance regardless of their current knowledge level. We believed (and still do!) that financial literacy should be accessible to all. We built a team around that core belief and got to work!

Early Recognition

Early into the development of our business, we finished a prototype called "StockMotion Practice" - an investing simulator. We entered it into an app competition hosted by the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology at Brigham Young University. We won first place, as well as the audience choice award on top of that. It was a major milestone for us! The judging panel's assessment criteria looked for scalability, quality, user experience, and business relevance. Winning first place gave us a massive confidence boost and helped us validate that our tech was high quality.

Another Win

Every year, the Rollins Center runs an Opportunity Quest Competition, which is sponsored by the University of Utah’s Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute in conjunction with the Utah Entrepeneur Challenge (UEC). We submitted our business model and were awarded the first place prize! It was another point of validation that encouraged us to persevere with the idea.

Since Then...

Since launching StockMotion on the App and Play stores, we've investing countless hours putting together a curriculum embedded in the game which teaches investing in a ground-up approach.

In putting together this curriculum, we've consulted dozens of industry experts including Financial and 401(k) advisors, Analysts, and Trade-Desk Specialists from all corners of the financial sector.

The curriculum is a growing entity with a steady supply of updates and additions being made and while the app is still very much in active development, it is fully operational and ready to be enjoyed, so please consider giving us a download and review!
