Why Did We Start StockMotion?

In Fall 2019, research showed us that financial anxiety usually traces back to one problem: nobody taught people how money works.

A little about us

People want to do the right thing with their money. They just never got a clear, engaging way to learn how. Traditional financial education is dry, intimidating, or locked behind paywalls and jargon.

Because of this, more people turn to questionable sources that tout luck in high-risk investments as expertise. That's where StockMotion comes in.

Early recognition

Early in development, we finished a prototype called StockMotion Practice—an investing simulator—and entered it into an app competition hosted by the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology at Brigham Young University. We won first place and the audience choice award. The judges looked for scalability, quality, user experience, and business relevance—and winning gave us major validation that we were on the right track.

Another win

Every year, the Rollins Center runs the Opportunity Quest competition, sponsored by the University of Utah's Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute in conjunction with the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge. We submitted our business model and were awarded first place—another point of validation that encouraged us to keep going.
